Brian Albers : Program Manager

Born and raised in Iowa, Brian brings a hard work ethic, common sense values and a drive to lead and grow Residential Science Resources. Brian has over fifteen years of management experience and has been heavily involved in the development of several start-up businesses, including previously owning and operating his own business.
Brian has a vested interest in the growth of the energy efficiency world and has been involved in energy efficiency for over 4 years; getting his start by helping a community of 25 homes reduce their energy usage enough to reduce CO2 output by 25%. He is also a committee member of Efficiency First. At RSR, Brian is responsible for Financials, Operations, Human Resources and overseeing the Colorado ENERGY STAR New Homes Program. In his free time, Brian enjoys mountain biking, snowboarding and hiking in Colorado’s great outdoors.
Ross Anderson : Energy Ratings Manager

Ross has 10 plus years experience in the building industry as a new construction and remodeling project manager. He has managed projects of all sizes including small residential remodel projects such as tearing down existing to build new; he has also been involved in medium sized commercial projects. For the past two years, Ross has been the owner of an energy auditing company and worked as a RESNET energy rater. Additionally, Ross sits on the Education committee at MN Greenstar. Currently, Ross is employed with Residential Science Resources as the Energy Ratings Manager. At RSR Ross manages the field staff and works closely with builders to educate them on ENERGY STAR homes.
Ross currently lives in Plymouth with his wife and two boys. In his spare time he enjoys golfing and hunting.
Mat Gates : CEO

As the Founder, Owner, and CEO of Residential Science Resources, Mat leads and directs the senior management team of RSR to follow through on the mission of providing realistic and cost effective solutions for residential energy efficiency programs. Developing and working with utility and governmental programs in several states allows Mat to keep an eye on the market and increase program effectiveness. Additionally as a Building Science Consultant, Mat leads activities with Minnesota area construction professionals by explaining the interactions of moisture and energy on the various building structures.
By integrating energy efficiency and durability into the design, construction, operation and maintenance of buildings, Mat truly believes that we can “build them.” Mat received a Bachelor of Science degree in Residential Building Science & Technology from the University of Minnesota. Mat enjoys spending time with his three children and working on home improvement projects.
Josh Heller : Building Science Consultant

Josh earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Residential Building Science and Technology from the University of Minnesota, and completed an internship with the MN Department of Commerce, Energy Information Office. Josh is a certified HERS rater, BPI building shell and building analyst professional. Josh lives with his wife Mimi in St. Paul.
Al Jasko : Energy Rater

Al received a bachelor of science degree in Residential Building Science and Technology from the University of MN. He is interested in energy efficiency and high performance homes. In his downtime he also enjoys playing sports and being outdoors.
Karl Lee : Energy Rater

Karl graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree specializing in Residential Building Science and also obtained a minor in Construction Management. He is a Minnesota certified Energy Auditor, BPI certified Envelope Professional, and BPI certified Building Analyst Professional. Previously he worked as an Energy Auditor for the State Weatherization program, and also has experience in the residential construction trades. Whether it is fishing, golfing, camping, hiking, canoeing, snowboarding, or watching a Twins game Karl enjoys being in the outdoors as much as possible.
Kim Leonard : Executive Assistant

Kim provides support to the CEO. She is responsible for daily administrative tasks for the Minnesota office. Kim has over 12 years of experience working in the administrative/support role. She received an AAS degree and is currently working on a BS in Communications at St. Catherine University. In her free time, Kim likes to spend time with her 2 children, as well as with friends.
Josh Mason : Energy Rater

Josh graduated from the University of MN, Duluth with a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies. Since graduation Josh has been working with various energy conservation programs including the State Weatherization Program as an Energy Auditor and Inspector. Josh is certified through BPI as a Building Analyst Professional and Envelope Professional. In addition, Josh is certified as a Residential Energy Auditor through the Dunwoody College of Technology and a Healthy Homes Specialist through the National Center for Healthy Housing. Josh is currently working on obtaining his Building Operator Certification, Level 1 which focuses on energy conservation in commercial buildings. Josh enjoys many outdoor activities and spending time with his wife and family.
Paul Mecikalski : Book Keeper
Born and raised in Wisconsin and yes a Green Bay Packer fan. He moved to the Minneapolis area to attend and graduation from the University of Minnesota in 2000. After graduating from the University of Minnesota, he graduate course work in economics overseas in London, United Kingdom and Athens, Greece. Paul has over ten years of accounting and finance experience in various size companies from fortune 50s to start-ups.
In his free time he enjoys spending time with his wife, their family and a course the dog. Paul’s hobbies include sports, the outdoors, traveling and enjoying their new house.
Dan Menssen : Lead Software Developer
John Mitchell : Energy Rater

John Mitchell is a BPI Certified Building Analyst. He has extensive experience in quality control of home weatherization as an inspector for Minnesota’s Weatherization Assistant Program. He is also a master’s candidate in energy policy at the Hubert H. Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota, where his research has focused on public policies to break down market barriers to the adoption of energy efficient technologies and promote renewable energy.
He lives in West St Paul with his two fantastic kids, Jordan and Lauren, and crazy but awesome cat, Cosmo.
Brendan Murphy : Administrative Associate

Jason Russell Brendan works directly with house blueprints from the Minnesota ENERGY STAR New Homes program, generating data crucial to assigning complete and accurate HERS ratings, and assists in monthly operations of the Colorado ENERGY STAR New Homes program. Brendan is a senior in mathematical biology at the University of Minnesota, with a special interest to dynamical systems analysis in neurodegenerative diseases. Depending on the Minnesota weather, he can be found on either a bicycle or a pair of skis.
Aaron Riendeau : Rating and Audit Manager

Aaron grew up in a small town in Western Wisconsin. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management from the University of Wisconsin-Stout and has over 18 years of construction and energy consulting experience. After years of working on and managing the construction of new homes, remodeling homes, and large industrial projects he couldn’t help becoming more aware of how construction could become so
much better with the help of home energy performance testing. Aaron has become a certified HERs rater, certified BPI Building Analyst, Green Consultant, an Associate Constructor, and has received certification as a Residential Energy Auditor from Dunwoody Institute. Aaron has been the owner of an energy auditing company that has tested thousands of homes in MN and Western WI.
Aaron spends his free time hunting, fishing, snowshoeing, and traveling. Aaron currently resides in Hudson, WI with his wife and 3 children.
Jason Russell : Scheduler

Jason graduated with a Bachelor for Science degree from the University of Minnesota in Construction Management. While attending school, Jason worked for a residential remodeling company and interned for a mid-sized commercial contractor. After graduation, Jason spent two winter seasons working for the Town of Vail Colorado while pursuing his passion for snowboarding. He recently worked as a Personal Banker and is excited to be back in the construction industry. Jason currently resides in Apple Valley, MN and enjoys spending time with family and friends. In his free time, Jason golfs when the grass is green, water-skies when the lakes are calm, and snowboards when the snow is deep.
Amy Sanders : Administrative Assistant

Amy is the human resources administrative assistant. She received her Bachelor's degree from Arizona State Univeristy in business and communications. In her free time she loves to cook and spend time with her family and her dog.
Raj Vellicolungara : Director of IT
Dave Williams : Plan Analysis Department

Dave oversees the Plan Analysis department and is responsible for generating the data which is combined with the field test results to generate a HERS rating. The HERS score represents the energy performance of a house. His hobbies are wood working and almost everything related to outdoor activities. Dave worked as an Electrical Engineer for 28 years prior to joining the RSR team.
