Michael Resech is a residential building science professional and industry leader with extensive experience in energy efficiency, building performance, program management, and residential construction.

As President and Co-Owner of Residential Science Resources (RSR), Michael oversees company operations and plays an integral role in the development and implementation of residential energy efficiency and building performance programs. His experience includes working with utility providers, builders, HERS rating professionals, and industry organizations to deliver effective, high-quality programs across residential markets.

With a background in architectural design and more than two decades of experience in commercial and residential building envelopes,
Michael brings a practical understanding of how homes are designed, constructed, evaluated, and improved. He has been instrumental in developing program strategies, improving operational processes, and adapting RSR’s services to evolving building codes, energy standards, and industry requirements.

Michael has also played a significant role in the development and evolution of HouseRater, helping translate the everyday needs of energy raters, providers, and program administrators into practical technology and streamlined workflows.

Today, Michael focuses on leading RSR’s operations, strengthening industry partnerships, and advancing the processes and technologies that help deliver healthier, safer, more comfortable, durable, and energy-efficient homes.
Mat Gates
Mat Gates is a building science entrepreneur, industry leader, and innovator with more than 25 years of experience advancing residential building performance, energy efficiency, and high-performance housing.

He founded Residential Science Resources (RSR) in 2004 with a vision of bringing greater science, consistency, and accountability to the residential construction industry. Throughout his career, Mat has helped develop and implement large-scale energy efficiency and building performance programs for utilities, municipalities, government agencies, builders, and homeowners nationwide.

His work spans the critical elements of residential performance, including energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality, occupant health and safety, comfort, durability, and construction quality. He has been involved in the evaluation, assessment, and improvement of more than 100,000 homes across the country.
Recognizing the need for better technology and more effective industry processes, Mat also founded HouseRater, a software platform born from decades of firsthand industry experience. HouseRater reflects his commitment to modernizing residential building performance through better data, standardized processes, quality assurance, and technology-driven solutions.
